Japanese food had in London

Miscellaneous

Hello! My name is Eri Ito, a Japanese motorsport journalist.
I mainly cover MotoGP, MotoE which is the electric two-wheel road racing championship.
This blog is all about Eri Ito’s personal experiences of visiting different countries to cover the MotoGP.

It’s been four months since I started staying in London.
I have been to a few different Japanese restaurants in London because I miss Japanese taste – miso, soy a sauce, ponzu (a kind of Japanese sauce), and dashi.
I would like to tell you about the experiences and food that I had.

The photo below is of ‘Tenmaru Lemon’ – a Lemon Paitan (a kind of ramen with chicken- base broth soup) that I had at TENMARU which is located near the Oxford Circus station in London.
I really miss ramens whenever and wherever because I’m Japanese (maybe?).
‘Tenmaru Lemon’ is with not only Lemons but also comes with various toppings – chicken chashu, black fungus, spring onion and a soft-boiled egg.
I thought the soup had a good flavour with a fresh taste of Lemon and it didn’t feel strange at all.
However, maybe I just didn’t know if it was authentic or not because it was the first time for me to eat Paitan noodles.
At least I liked it very much.
TENMARU is a kind of Ramen Izakaya (Izakaya is a type of restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of small dishes with a variety of alcoholic drinks), and they have a list of nibbles (like tapas).
We ordered ‘Cheese Mochi Potato’.
The chewy potatoes had cheese inside! It was so tasty and would have loved to have another but couldn’t because they are big.

A cup of green tea at the cafe in the British Library was much better than I expected.
I really love green tea.
Especially because I love it so much, I didn’t expect much. However, this cup of green tea was a pleasant surprise.
I ordered a cup of green tea from a young staff and waited for it. He put green tea leaves into a small bag and extracted them.
This was really not bad at all.
I asked him, “How popular is green tea in London?” He answered, “So, so.” Makes sense.
Next time I fancy a cup of green tea, this place will definitely be my go-to place.
